Auckland Council – Why recycle?

Waste. Once it was just rubbish, but today,
it’s a valuable resource. Used cans, plastics, paper and glass can be recycled again and
again, creating new products from old. Because we recycle, we’re reducing the amount
of waste that goes to landfill therefore cutting greenhouse gases, as well as conserving precious
natural resources. Sounds like a good idea, right? At Auckland Council, we’re committed to recycling
and we want to make it an easy, simple part of your day. For many people it already is
and that’s great, but did you know 15 per cent of what’s in the average Aucklander’s
rubbish bin or bag could be recycled? That’s 136,000 cubic metres, which if they were put
on top of each other would reach higher than 413 Sky Towers of resources that could be
used to do so much more. For example, recycling one plastic bottle
like this saves enough energy to power a lightbulb for three hours. Let’s all recycle right and make the most
of waste. Click on the next video to see what can and can’t go in your recycling bin.
