This is one of the six committee rooms arranged over three floors in the committee tower. The committees are small groups of MSP’s who meet to scrutinise the work of the Scottish Government and to consider proposals for new laws in principle and in detail. The convener, the MSP who chairs the meetings, sits in front of me here and sitting next to them are the deputy convener, the committee clerk and the official reporters who report on the proceedings. As we move around the table on either side are seats for members of the committee and in front of each of them is a console which they use when speaking. A member of the broadcasting team from the parliament sits here at the table too, the proceedings are filmed and broadcast live on our website, there’s recorded footage there too. At the foot of the table opposite where the convener sits sit the witnesses. They answer questions from the committee members and provide them with evidence. The information which they give helps to inform the committees discussions. Behind the witnesses and behind me sit members of the press and they’re here to report on the proceedings and then behind them seating’s for the public who are welcome to observe the committees in public session.
