Political Parties and Elections – Northern Illinois University

Hi, this is Matt Streb. Parties and Elections
is always one of my favorite courses to teach—it’s obviously even more fun this semester because
we have a presidential election going on. So we’re going to ask a lot of interesting
questions in this class. We’re going to look at voters—why do people vote? Why don’t
people vote? What determines a person’s vote? We’re going to look at parties, we’re
going to look at why parties are important in democracy. Why do we only have two political
parties in the United States and should we have more? We’re going to look at presidential
elections, everything from how the nomination process works, to the Electoral College, to
whether presidential debates matter. So, it’s an exciting time to take this class, and I
look forward to having you in class in the fall.
