Wandsworth Council is recruiting: Director of Children’s Services

Hello my name is Paul Martin. I’m the Chief
Executive at Wandworth Council. I’m here at the Devas centre off Lavender
Hill in Battersea to talk about this fantastic vacancy we’ve got of Director
of Children Services for Wandsworth Council. We’ve got a group of young
people here to talk to them about what they are looking for in the new Director
and I can’t wait to hear what they’ve got to say. What are the kind of three –
let’s say three – qualities you’re looking for in the Director of Children’s Services? They need to understand that Wandsworth
is very culturally diverse and that everybody is culturally different and
not culturally deprived. The Director needs to have a clear vision and
a clear mind-set of what should happen and what is to be done in the future.
The DCS needs to understand that every young person is different and how to
deal with each individual. As the Director of Children Services you should know
that every decision you make is about the child and whatever decision that you’re
going to make has to be more positive than negative. They need to come down and see the kids at every
unsupported housing and see what the problem is. The director needs to include all people not just the ones that are mainly at risk but the ones that may be at risk in the future. This is this is a job for a person who can
make things happen, so what is it that you were expecting this person to make
happen for you? I hope that the Director will help me in the future with
my son in trying to get him into Grammar school and help young mums like me get back into
education and be the best that they can be. I would like them to create
more youth clubs so I’m able to participate within a music group to keep
me away from crime. I would like them to provide opportunities for other young people like I got
to go to university or do scholarships. We want the DCS to inspire and motivate
the people who work directly with us. We want the DCS to commit to
helping us and making a difference. I would like the DCS to provide a
parent-like figure like I didn’t have as a child. We want somebody who will
support young people from early years all the way up to adulthood. We want you to look after us. you
